Day 1 of Costa Rica Service Trip: After a long day of cars, vans, and planes, the crew (Jeniveve, Gloria, Serena, Selina, Teryn and Lawrence Romaine) has finally arrived in Uvita, Costa Rica. After eating dinner and meeting some locals, we took a walk to get acquainted with the new surroundings. The culture will take time to get used to, but we are excited to dive right in, starting with tomorrow morning’s activities at the Forjando Alas Youth Center. Stay tuned for the next 9 days for nightly updates!

Day 2 of Costa Rica service trip: we started the day with a bumpy drive up the mountain where our friend Julio introduced us to a variety of medicinal plants. The primary rainforest here is breathtaking, filled with Dr.Seuss-esque flora! Later, we went down to the Forjandos Alas youth center and met local kids who attend programs there. We played games with them and read them some of the Spanish books collected by our high school Stanton’s Spanish Honor Society. For lunch, we had pasta, rice and beans. The food is already beginning to taste familiar. Hasta mañana!
